Vulnerabilities
Security flaw / Sony support
December 23, 2025How the vulnerability works
You just need to contact Sony support by phone and provide:
-
the PSN (PlayStation Network) account username you want to recover
-
a transaction number from an old invoice, regardless of the year, which they use only to make sure it’s really you.
Explain the risk
The risk is losing access to your PSN (PlayStation Network) account—that is, all the games you have purchased.
With this access, it is also possible to buy new games if a credit card is registered.
Solution / how to protect yourself
Do not share a PSN (PlayStation Network) invoice via messaging apps, and even less so on social media.
Without an invoice number, support will theoretically not give you access to your account.

In 2011, Sony suffered breach after breach after breach — it was a very bad year for them. The breaches spanned various areas of the business ranging from the PlayStation network all the way through to the motion picture arm, Sony Pictures. A SQL Injection vulnerability in sonypictures.com lead to tens of thousands of accounts across multiple systems being exposed complete with plain text passwords.
